The Lancet launches a Special Issue on Countdown to 2015 for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health

London, 11 April 2008 - Today, The Lancet Special Issue with key research articles for the 2008 Countdown to 2015 Report has been launched at London's Science Media Centre. The launch press briefing with Dr Flavia Bustreo, Deputy Director, Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, Dr Jennifer Bryce, John Hopkins School of Public Health, Dr Giulia Greco, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Dr Elizabeth Mason, Director, Child and Adolescent Health Department, WHO, and Ann Starrs, President, Family Care International, shared encouraging progresses and tremendous challenges countries are facing in advancing towards the Millennium Development Goals 4 & 5. Dr Peter Salama, Associate Director, Programme Division, UNICEF, joined this session by conference call.
The 2008 Countdown to 2015 Report, including data profiles for 68 priority countries, will be launched at a press briefing at 1300, 16 April 2008, in Cape Town, South Africa. The Report will then be discussed at a three-day major international conference with Parliamentarians, Government Ministers and health policy-makers from 68 countries, donor nations and international partners. The Countdown Conference will take place in 17-19 April.
