Bali Seminar: Achieving the MDGs in Asia and the Pacific

A seminar organized by The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, "Towards Inclusive Growth: Achieving the MDGs in Asia and the Pacific" took place at the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank. At the end of the seminar, a related publication was launched, "Investing in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health: The Case for Asia and the Pacific". Several key people spoke in support of the publication's main message, including the Honorable Bob McMillan, the Parliamentary Secretary for Development, Australia and Ursula Schäfer-Preuss, ADB Vice President, Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development. Comments from them strongly supported stepped-up financing, national strategies, and programming to reduce maternal and child mortality in the region. The Session Panel included Alan Winters, Chief Economist, DfID, Pierre Jacquet, Chief Economist, French Development Cooperation, Noeleen Heyzer, Undersecretary General and Executive Director, UNESCAP. The seminar was attended by about 60 persons
Other persons greeted, briefed, or approached about the investment case: Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia, Professor Salim, Special Adviser for MDGs 4 and 5 of Indonesia and Abul Maal Abdul Muhit, Minister of Finance of Bangladesh.
