14th PMNCH Board Meeting
26-27 JUNE 2013 | JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA
Gathering for the first time since the announcement of new Board Chair Graça Machel, members of the PMNCH Board came together to review The Partnership’s progress since their last meeting in Abuja, Nigeria in October 2012 and to decide on upcoming priorities and activities. The Board also discussed women's and children's health priorities and initiatives more generally with a view to stimulate alignment.
Agenda items included PMNCH engagement in the post-2015 development framework process, financing channels for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH), and the development of the Every Newborn action plan to end preventable deaths.
On the first morning of the meeting, a ministerial panel session entitled “Accelerating progress towards improved women’s and children’s health in Africa: A multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral effort” addressed upcoming initiatives that aim to promote RMNCH outcomes at regional and global levels. About 60 participants took part in this session, including representatives from the PMNCH Board, the African Union Commission, the East African Community, ministries of health from PMNCH member countries, the Africa MNCH Coalition and other key development partners.
A dinner event on the eve of the meeting was co-hosted by four NGO board members—World Vision, Save the Children, IPPF and White Ribbon Alliance, together with PATH (alternate to White Ribbon Alliance).
