WRA: Atlas of birth launched at Women Deliver

Calls for political leadership and resources to extend lifesaving care to all women

9 JUNE 2010 - The Atlas of Birth has been launched at the Women Deliver Conference in Washington, D.C. The Atlas of Birth, a compendium of the latest available data with maps, images and stories, documents “one of the greatest opportunities of our time – to prevent the tragic and almost always preventable deaths of women in childbirth.” Around half of the world’s women are still giving birth on the floor of their own home, alone or with only a neighbour or relative to help them. The Atlas of Birth reveals the human pathos behind the numbers, elucidating the mostly hidden and huge impact of maternal mortality on the daily lives and peace and prosperity of individuals, communities and nations around the world.
