World Vision: The Best Start - Saving Children Lives in their First Thousand Days
21 SEPTEMBER 2011 - "Every day, more than 7,500 children under the age of five die as a result of undernutrition. This is worse than any famine. Although these deaths take place every day, all over the world, tragically, they go un-noticed. But according to “The Best Start: Saving Children's Lives in Their First 1,000 Days ”, a report issued today by aid agency World Vision, these deaths are preventable."
This report draws on positive experiences in World Vision programmes and beyond to demonstrate how positive nutrition outcomes for mothers and children can be delivered at the community level. All these programmes are proven and cost-effective, and save lives.
