UNFPA: World at 7 Billion Report & Campaign

People and Possibilities in a World of 7 Billion

State of World Population Report

31 OCTOBER 2011 - As of October 31 2011, seven billion people will inhabit the earth. The 2011 UNFPA State of World Population report, People and Possibilities in a World of 7 Billion, looks at the dynamics behind the numbers, explaining trends which define our world of 7 billion, and documents actions that people worldwide are taking in their own communities to make the most of their--and our--world. UNFPA has also launched the 7 Billion Campaign to highlight these actions through interactive online media.

World at 7 Billion Campaign

By the close of 2011, the global population will have reached 7 billion. A world of 7 billion people is a distinctive moment in human history, which represents both an achievement as well as an unprecedented challenge for the future of the planet and its inhabitants. It presents a rare opportunity for a call-to-action to renew global commitment for a healthy and sustainable world. As the United Nations agency responsible for marking this global milestone, the UNFPA, in collaboration with Women Deliver and other partners, is launching an innovative platform and campaign – 7 Billion Actions – to showcase stories, connections and actions.
