8 MARCH 2010 | THE LANCET - nternational Women’s Day, first marked in Copenhagen in 1910, will celebrate its centenary on March 8, 2010. It is a day when women are recognised for their achievements irrespective of ethnic origin, culture, economics, or poli tics. This will be an occasion to look back on past accomplishments and, more importantly, to look ahead to the potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.
