Merck for Mothers and NORAD Co-chair UN Task Force on Sustainable Business Models in Health
22 FEBRUARY 2012 - Merck for Mothers and NORAD – the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation – have been named to co-chair the Task Force on Sustainable Business Models. This new task force, set by the Every Woman, Every Child’s Innovation Working Group, is comprised of representatives from academia, NGOs, development agencies, social enterprises and the private sector, and aims to harness the expertise and hands-on experience of its members to provide practical recommendations to improve access to health care for women and children who need it most.
Merck for Mothers, a PMNCH partner, is a new initiative aimed at helping the world reach UN Millennium Development Goal 5 to reduce the maternal mortality, and focuses on the two leading causes of maternal mortality—post-partum hemorrhage and preeclampsa, as well as family planning.
Merck for Mothers has also launched an alliance with PATH to assess maternal health technologies that are at various stages of development which aims to identify and advance innovations that have the greatest potential to save women’s lives. Merck for Mothers is co-chair of the Maternal Mortality Working Group of the Millennium Development Goal Health Alliance, a partnership of private-sector leaders established by the Every Woman, Every Child initiative.
