Friends of the Global Fund Africa will be hosting two high-level sessions at the International AIDS Conference in Washington DC, USA.

High-level session 1: What the Global Fund Means to Africans: Africa’s Need of a Fully Funded Global Fund.

Press release: Global Leaders call for increased funding for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

AIDS Conference 2012 - At a high level session hosted by Friends Africa, at the recently concluded International AIDS Conference in Washington DC, global health leaders, private sector partners and key government officials from different parts of the globe made a joint call for increased funding and support for the Global Fund - the largest multi-lateral financing agency for the fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

At the two high -level sessions hosted by Friends Africa on 24th July and 25th July, "What the Global Fund Means to Africans: Africa's Need of a Fully Funded Global Fund" and Gift from Africa - "Investing Africa's Wealth for Africa's Health: Engaging the African Private Sector in the Fight Against AIDS in Africa" respectively, chaired by prominent development expert Professor Jeffrey Sachs and leading advocate for private sector involvement in health, Dr. Brian Brink, experts called on donor countries, foundations and development partners to increased their support and commitment to the success of the Global Fund. Also in attendance at the two high level sessions included, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, RBM & UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Dr. Debrework Zewdie, Deputy Executy Director of the Global Fund, Professoor John Idoko, DG, NACA, Dr. Angela El-Adas, DG, Ghana AIDS Commission, Mr. James Gatera, CEO, Bank of Kigali, Dr Anita Asimwe DG, Rwanda AIDS Commission, Dr. Alexandre Manguele , Minister of Health, Mozambique, Dr. Christoph Benn, Director, External Relations and Partnerships, the Global Fund, Dr Akudo Ikemba, CEO/ Founder, Friends of the Global Fund Africa.
