PMNCH Director to become ADG at WHO
AUGUST 2010 | GENEVA - Dr Flavia Bustreo, Director of The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, has been appointed Assistant Director-General for the Family and Community Health cluster of the World Health Organization.
"Dr Bustreo has been a tremendous asset to The Partnership during her tenure," said Dr Julio Frenk, Chair of The Partnership and Dean of the Harvard School of Public Health. "Her vision, drive and leadership have brought The Partnership to new heights, and we look forward to an even stronger working relationship with WHO as a result of her appointment."
The process to find a new Director for The Partnership is underway.
Said WHO Director-General Margaret Chan: “Dr Bustreo will remain Director of PMNCH for up to six months to ensure continuity at such a critical and visible time for maternal, newborn and child health.”
Dr Bustreo is from Italy and has been with The Partnership since December 2006, first as Deputy-Director and assuming the role of Director in 2009. “This is an opportunity” said Dr Bustreo, ”to enhance the synergy between The Partnership and the work at the hosting partner – WHO - creating an even stronger alliance.”
