Mission statement
The Medtronic Foundation is charged as a primary channel for Medtronic’s strategic philanthropy, with grant programs closely aligned with the company’s commitment to improve access to quality healthcare and address the global burden of chronic disease. In fiscal year, 2011, the Medtronic Foundation awarded $30.6 million in grants. Our specific commitment to Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a new one and as such, we do not have any documented achievements to report. However, this commitment is consistent with the Medtronic Foundation’s mission. Beginning this year, the Medtronic Foundation will "adopt" RHD as a disease we are passionate about, and we pledge to leverage Medtronic’s products, people and philanthropy to address it. Through our grants, we are addressing this disease in a holistic manner across its spectrum. We have also begun to actively seek partners in the private sector who can add to or complement our efforts toward “eradicating RHD in our lifetime."
