Mission statement
Save the Mothers has a unique, multi-disciplinary model that develops indigenous leaders across a variety of disciplines in order to bring about the cultural and political change needed to improve maternal health. The program offers a Master of Public Health Leadership at the Uganda Christian University and recruits lawyers, politicians (including 5 MPs), journalists, teachers, religious leaders and others for this training and network of advocates. As of 2012, over 200 East African professionals have enrolled/graduated in the program and are promoting safe motherhood in their field of influence. Graduates are now engaged in promoting safe and dignified deliveries for mothers and their babies through the "Mother Friendly Hospital" initiative which is being led by Save the Mothers.
