Global Business Plan for MDGs 4 & 5

Geneva, 2-3 July 2007 - About 40 people representing an array of different constituencies, regions and country ministries attended a meeting to discuss the GBP for MDGs 4 & 5 as part of the ongoing consultative process to develop the plan. The Partnership has served as the platform for developing the plan and ensuring contributions by its stakeholders. The purpose of the meeting was to agree on the pillars of the GBP for MDGs 4&5 based on input from colleagues from countries on the Draft Concept Paper for the GBP for MDGs 4 & 5.

The Partnership would like to share information on media and communication activities for the launch of the GBP with all members and partners. Could all communication focal points of partner agencies send an email to namjilsurent@who.int to be included in the email list for this purpose. Comments on the Draft Concept Paper for the GBP for MDGs 4 & 5 accepted until 20 July 2007.

At the 60th World Health Assembly

Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister Norway

Geneva, 14-23 May 2007 - Health ministers at the 60th WHA were urged to focus on reducing maternal, newborn and young child deaths by global leaders and Partnership--the Prime Minister of Norway, the Rt. Hon. Jens Stoltenberg, and Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund. As well, the Assistant Director-General of the Family and Community Health Cluster, Mrs. Daisy Mafubelu, gave the biennial report from the WHO Secretariat on resolution WHA58.31: Working towards universal coverage of maternal, newborn and child health interventions.

The Partnership team took the opportunity to meet with some of the attending Health Ministry officials. Discussions with country representatives focused on two issues: country needs with regards to technical support and The Partnership's ability to respond to that need. The Partnership team also took this opportunity to update stakeholders on the Partnership’s latest developments and reinforce the importance of active member countries contributions. The Partnership was able to meet with representatives from: Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chile, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia India, Malawi, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Senegal, Timor Leste and Zambia.

Country Support (CSWG) Working Group Meeting

The CSWG held a teleconference meeting on 28 June 2007 to discuss its work in countries and The Partnership's "modus operandi" in countries.
