Overview
Over the past three decades ACF has assessed and treated millions of acutely malnourished children and their families, and recognises that enormous efforts are still needed. Taking Action is intended for policymakers at global and national levels and advocates for increased attention / action to the problem of malnutrition. Treating or preventing malnutrition begins with being able to recognise and diagnose the problem where it exists.
The report calls for expanded efforts to scale up the treatment of those most severely affected, using available and tested methods. It also contends that actions must be taken to both prevent existing cases from worsening, and to address the root causes of acute malnutrition. The proposed strategy embraces diagnosis, treatment, prevention of malnutrition, as well as strengthening coordination and partnerships, and securing regular sources of funding to scale up programmes.
