2009 Annual Report: It's Possible
Publisher/Organizer: AED
Publication date: 2009
Language: English
Overview
The theme of this year's annual report captures the reason why AED continues to make significant contributions: We take a holistic approach to development, looking at every challenge from every possible angle, and we focus on collaboration--at every level and across all sectors.
In this report we share ideas, methodologies, and results made possible by engaging the people we serve, leveraging our and our partners' resources, and applying AED's collective strengths. Our philosophy and practice continue always to build local capacity--of people, and their institutions of civil society and government.
Today, as a result of AED programs, health workers are using their cellular phones to gather data and track the progression of diseases in the most remote regions of the world. People in some of the poorest areas of India are drinking clean water for the first time. Reality television is helping to bridge divided communities in Eastern Europe. In New York City, a neighborhood school is giving rigorous academics a global lens. And marginalized communities on the Gulf Coast of the United States are gaining a voice and victories as the rebuilding continues.
The ongoing support of donors, partners, and individual contributors and the passion and dedication of our staff around the world enable AED to help create new possibilities for poor and underserved people and to make a positive difference in their lives.
