Overview

We found that Community Health Workers (CHWs) were able to identify key clinical signs and symptoms of severe illness with a high level of validity in the context of routine, population-based household surveillance. The use of CHWs to identify and refer neonates with severe illness in the home using an IMCI algorithm is a promising strategy for improving neonatal health and survival in low-resource developing country settings."
