This issue of Progress looks at some of the topics that were covered at a meeting on Medical, Ethical and Social Aspects of Assisted Reproduction in 2001, starting with an overview of the situation in developing countries, where infertility rates are high and private assisted reproductive technologies (ART) services are being set up in response to the needs and demands of individuals. This is followed by a series of short reports from several regions and countries on the current status of ART services.
