Operational definitions of key terms
Knowledge synthesis: Knowledge synthesis refers to the process of aggregation of existing knowledge related to a question. The process involves transparent application of explicit and reproducible methods to identify, appraise, and synthesize data (using meta-analysis and meta-synthesis) from as many studies as possible that have been deemed to be relevant to a specific well-defined question.
Implementation research: Implementation Research is the scientific study of methods to promote the systematic uptake of clinical research findings and other evidence-based practices into routine practice, and hence to improve the quality (effectiveness, reliability, safety, appropriateness, equity, efficiency) of health care. It includes the study of influences on healthcare professional and organisational behaviour." (From the journal "Implementation Science"):
