Terms of Reference for the Secretariat for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020
WHO serves as the secretariat for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020. The role of the secretariat is as follows:
In terms of programming:
- Updates the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 as needed
- Prepares and disseminates materials on the five pillars of the Global Plan
- Collaborates with partners to promote action on five pillars of the Global Plan
- Supports countries by drawing attention to their specific needs for technical support
- Ensures ongoing monitoring and reporting on Decade programmes and activities
In terms of management:
- Maintains a database of national focal points, national plans and proposed activities for the Decade
- Works with members of the UN Road Safety Collaboration to plan milestone global events across the Decade, such as global road safety weeks
- Convenes periodic meetings of the Friends of the Decade of Action for Road Safety in support of preparing these milestone global events
- Supports preparations for the mid-Decade review conference to be held in 2015
In terms of communications:
- Communicates regularly about Decade-related events and activities
- Maintains the official institutional web site for the Decade, as well as the Decade communications on Facebook and Twitter
- Keeps a calendar of relevant global and regional road safety conferences and events
