Let's Make Roads Safe Together

On May 11, 2011 by the initiative of the foundation “Partnership for Road Safety” (www.safedrive.ge) Georgia officially joins the global campaign to mark the launch of the Decade for Road Safety in Georgia. Foundation will hold different events in country throughout the week. The seminar with title Decade of Action: Georgian Perspective will be held where the foundation “Partnership for Road Safety”, the EASST, BP, Red Cross, Georgian Auto Federation, Auto Build, members of the Georgian Parliament, Ministry of Education and Science, traffic) Police and Ministry of Infrastructure and development, and representatives of other government bodies, NGOs, media, health area and local community will present their views for future.

For the very day, by the initiative of the foundation a road safety song with social character is being written; famous Georgian singers, well known public figures will sing together the song. There will be made also a video for this song and its' presentation will be held on May 11. Students of the Universities will make presentations explaining how they perceive existing challenges and what ways they see for solving it. They will also present videos which were made based on their own ideas. The best work will be chosen and will be recorded a video professionally, and then it will be shown by different social nets and TV companies.

During the week different events will be held in three big cities of Georgia and public schools, where kids and pupils appeal to drivers and pedestrians to protect the standards of safety rules; Decade of Action brochure will be created in Georgian language and speeded with decade of action Tag in schools, other crowded areas. All the events held during week will be covered by different Georgian public and private TV and radio broadcasting companies such as “Channel 1”, “Rustavi 2”, “Imedi”, Avtoradio and etc. Partnership is also going to use extensively its popular social network page and deliver decade goals to public and decision makers.

Don't Drink and Drive

On 11th of May Georgia Alliance for Safe Roads with Coalition of Road Safety - company "Natakhtari", Toyota Caucasus LLC, Insurance company GPI Holding, US Embassy in Georgia will officially launch the campaign "Don't Drink and Drive." The campaign will be conducted in the framework of the First Lady's Healthy Life Style Initiative - "Don't Worry, Be Healthy!". The date has been chosen to coincide with the Decade of Action events and as a part of the launch all the speakers will wear Decade of Action tags. The goal of the campaign "Don't Drink and Drive" is to reduce the number of crashes caused by drunk driving, by changing the behaviour of drivers through the public awareness campaign and enhanced enforcement of traffic rules. Event will be held in Tbilisi, in collaboration with government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, diplomatic representatives as well as private sector companies committed to road safety. The guest of honour will be the First Lady of Georgia Mrs. Sandra Elisabeth Roelofs the Goodwill Ambassador for WHO/Europe. There will be the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding among parties of Road Safety Coalition.
