Pappu Zebra & The Art of LIVING safely

The Art of Living International Headquarters in Bangalore, India, will host a special event to mark the start of the United Nations' Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 -20. On May 13, 2011, H H Sri Sri Ravishankarji, revered Head of the Art of Living Foundation will launch "Pappu Zebra & the Art of Living Safely" in the presence of H H Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma (Maharaja of Travancore), senior Government officials and more than 10000 visitors to the Ashram. The school-level project features Pappu Zebra the popular road safety mascot (created by Artist Nandan Pillai) in a series of highly effective educational media products and events to promote road safety awareness within communities. The nationwide programme, developed by OrgPEOPLE, will be rolled out in schools in cooperation with the respective state-level road safety authorities, and has the support of TATA AIG General Insurance.

India is world's road accident deaths capital - 118,239 person died in road accidents in year 2009. However the Tamil Nadu state has the highest numbers of road accidents in India. With only 5.7% of the country's population, Tamil Nadu has accounted for 14.4% road accidents. This state has reported 10.3% of total road accident death in the country. That is, Tamil Nadu is No.1 in "road accidents" and No. 3 in "road accident death" in India. PASUMAI THAAYAGAM dedicates itself to change this grim scenario. Mumbai Traffic Police has initiated following campaigns:

  • Eye & Dental Check-up Camps for Motorists.
  • Blood Donation Camps have been arranged at various places.
  • Road Shows at various Junctions on Safety driving.
  • Camps have been arranged by 25 Traffic Divisions in Mumbai regarding Road Safety Awareness for Auto Rickshaw, Taxi, Truck & other vehicle drivers.
  • Placards & Banners on Road Safety have been installed at various important junctions in Mumbai City.
  • Special Drives for Drunken Driving, Over Speeds, Lane Cutting.
  • Slides showing Road Safety messages have been distributed in various multiplexes & Cinema Halls.
  • Mumbai Traffic Police has tied up with various organisations like WIAA, Safe Kids, Responsible Road Users Club etc for awareness of this event
