Youth For Road safety in Timor-Leste
11 May 2011, CVTL - Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste
Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) is implementing a road safety campaign in 2011. The campaign will focus on young drivers and pedestrians with the aim of reducing the number of deaths, injuries and impact from road accidents in Timor Leste. CVTL will conduct a number of activities throughout the year including:
- To develop new IEC materials about Road safety targeted at young drivers (aged 15-25 years old). The messages will be focused around the three topics of speeding, drink driving and safe use of motorcycle helmets. The final material to be distributed will include posters and stickers.
- To run a music competition for Red Cross Youth clubs- aimed at developing songs and lyrics focused on road safety messages.
- To develop a youth-focused module on road safety that can be delivered to school, university and college students. This module will include key prevention messages as well as a component of first aid.
- To hold an awareness raising event on 11 May to mark UN Decade of Road Safety Action. This event will include an exhibition that will include photos of road accidents and activities such as a quiz and motorcycle helmet display.
