Launch of the Uganda Helmet Vaccine Initiative

On 18 November 2009 the AIP Foundation announced the launch of the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative (GHVI) in partnership with the FIA Foundation and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility. The initiative will introduce helmet-wearing programs, piloted in Vietnam, to other developing nations experiencing similar crises. The Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative was launched in Moscow, at the UN Ministerial Conference on Road safety. Uganda will officially launch implementation of the initiative with a 5 pronged strategy: 1) technical assistance (helmet testing and standards) 2) Public awareness Campaigns, 3) improved enforcement programs 4) Surveillance and 5) Helmets to markets The UHVI project is being hosted in Uganda by the Automobile Association of Uganda (AAU) and Arrive Alive Uganda. AAU is a member of the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society. Arrive Alive is a coalition of corporate organizations working in Uganda with the objective of contributing towards RTI reduction.
