5th meeting of the UN Road Safety Collaboration
The fifth meeting of the UN Road Safety Collaboration took place on 30 and 31 October 2006 at WHO's Headquarters in Geneva. More than 60 delegates from around the world met to discuss progress in road safety around the world. Ambassador Fuad Mubarak Al Hinai, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the UN, who has been instrumental in advancing road safety in the UN General Assembly, opened the meeting. During the meeting participants gave updates on their progress towards common goals since the previous meeting in Bangkok in May 2006. In addition, progress on the "how to" manuals, the Make Roads Safe campaign, the Global Road Safety Facility and various conferences and meetings were highlighted. Progress on preparations for the First UN Global Road Safety week were discussed including a presentation by two of the youth who are currently preparing a declaration for the Youth Assembly planned for 23-24 April 2007. Small working groups on fleet safety, data, infrastructure and implementing road safety interventions made significant progress.
