Fourteen young "ambassadors" meet in Geneva to prepare Youth Assembly on road safety
Fourteen young "ambassadors" - from youth associations and nongovernmental organizations from 12 countries - met at the WHO in Geneva today to prepare for a Youth Assembly to be held during the First UN Road Safety Week (23 - 29 April 2007).
These young people will work with WHO and the Regional Commissions to finalise the agenda for the 2-day Assembly and to draft a road safety declaration which will be adopted during the Youth Assembly.
Ms Nellie El Ghossaini from Lebanon and Mr Floor Lieshout from The Netherlands were elected Chairpersons of a working group to develop the declaration, assisted by participants from India, The Netherlands, China, Kenya, France and Brazil. The group will use an electronic medium to develop the declaration which will be shared with a wider audience on this site in early 2007. This declaration will be the first global document expressing how youth suggest the world's roads can be made safer for them.
