Road Safety Week

The PM will launch the event at the first ever Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Suva at 10.00am During the Conference he will make the SUVA DECLARATION which will involve declaring the Fiji Road Safety Week and calling on ALL to support the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 - 2013. This will be followed by various activities throughout the week.After the launch he will take the first step in the Short Long walk Campaign, which will involve walkers (pedestrian safety ) from around the island for one whole week. Community involvement will be targeted to include all community groups. we will have a Public Transport Day where the focus will be on Public Service vehicles.Car travelers will be halted for the day and everyone will be travelling by either a taxi or a bus for the day. Schools will be heavily involved and Prinicipals and class teachers will swap class/ school and speak road safety in another class or another school. Their will be outreach teams moving out into the community and creating safety consciousness at village halls as well as religious organisations. Road Marshall Club members will be visiting islands, airports and speaking road safety for all travelers before they leave or as they arrive.
