Young volunteers would stand in small groups with message "HOW CAN I" at the start points of specific roads of the city where the pedestrians are put to maximum risk while crossing/walking along. This event would be done in Chandigarh, which is the one of the most planned and the youngest city in the World. The pedestrian space is being squeezed and is being given to cars. We will be collecting information on the modifications made in the pedestrian pathways through RTI [Right to Information] so the issue can be supported by data before it is highlighted at the event.

• To address ‘Pedestrian Safety’ Issues in New Delhi (India) we will pick one ‘E’ i.e. Education out of Four E’s of Road Safety and make people aware of their Pedestrian Right.
• We will run a ‘FM Radio Campaign’ through entire Pedestrian Safety Week wherein we’ll Educate people about ‘Right to Walk’ and Rules and Guidelines in this context.
• Through ‘FM Radio Campaign’ we’ll urge all concerned stake holders to pave the path for the safety and smooth ‘On Road Journey’ of Pedestrians.
• We’ll organize ‘Direct Connect’ public events at Shopping Malls and distribute ‘Small Handy Cards’ bearing Pedestrian Safety Message/Rules/Guidelines and important helpline numbers on it.

Observance of UN Global Road Safety Week and The Long Short Walk

On the occasion of UN Global Road Safety Week, we at FPRA are planning to organize several events like Press Meet, Demonstration by Pappu Zebra at Traffic Squares, Distribution of Safety Materials for Pedestrians, The Long and Short Walk etc. in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar cities (India). The main objective of these events are to draw the attention of the society to the need for pedestrian safety. The programme will be organised in collaboration with "Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety" and “Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack”. All other stakeholders like Red Cross volunteers; press and media people, emergency medical service providers, bus and truck owners, legal professionals, motor vehicle drivers, non-governmental organisations etc. are to be involved in this campaign.

Keeping in mind the need to educate drivers to ensure safe passage for pedestrians, banners with catchy messages focused on walkers’ safety will be displayed at busy traffic intersections during the week. Free distribution of booklet ‘ABC of Road Safety’ in schools to benefit students and teachers. Event focuses pedestrians’ safety in particular joy walkers and students who are run over when crossing roads by speeding vehicles. More than 12400 pedestrians died in road accidents in 2011. Many die premature death before realizing values of their life. Objective of the event is to educate pedestrians to stay safe on road. India being 2nd largest Road network in the world accounts for more pedestrians’ death in road accidents. There is a growing concern over this issue. With 1, 20,000 persons dying in Road accidents, India is like accident capital of the world. Students and children represent significant number of pedestrian death say 35% in our country.

Foot Path- The Right of Pedestrians
12 May 2013, Environment Awareness & Reform Task force for Heirs (EARTH NGO)
In Our City Rohtak, Haryana, the Footpath are being encroached by the shopkeepers and the Pedestrians have to walk on road which is dangerous for them and also a problem for the vehicles on the road. so we will have a walk on the Footpath of the City and will give a Memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak city to provide encroachment free foot path for the pedestrians.There will be four groups of the volunteers who will reach the Deputy Commisioner Camp Office from both side of the road and from the two end of the Rohtal city on Main Road. Around 200 Volunteers( Paryavaran Rakshak) will participate in this activity.

"Safe Walking - Safe Living" Pedestrian safety awareness activity of Subhayatra programme

Groups of Student Police Cadets in uniform will interact with pedestrians and drivers at key intersections in and around Thrissur City (Kerala, India). These high school students will distribute awareness materials on pedestrian safety and also encourage all road users to adopt safe practices while on public passageways.Pappu Zebra, the road safety mascot, will join SPCs in this activity.

Conveying message both for Pedestrians and Motorists will be released in a function and the pamphlets will be distributed to reach all households and the Banners will be displayed in all important functions. This will be spread over the different areas covering each area for two months. For this the city will be divided into six zones. Apart from doing this in the capital metropolis of Chennai, it will be also done similarly in the three important big cities of Tamilnadu namely Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore. Since there is a Court order now against exhibition of banners, instead of printing 200 banners as originally proposed, we have modified it so as to print 60 banners and 80 thousand pamphlets.In fact due to the large number of pamphlets the number of people covered will be more than 4 lakhs.

THE LONG SHORT WALK & BOOM MESSAGES
6-12 May 2013, KARNAL POLICE AND ARRIVESAFE
BOOM MESSAGE: There is a Toll Barrier with 24 passages and "boom barriers" on the busy National Highway 1. Approximately 100,000 vehicles pass though these barriers in a day. The messages would be hung on the boom barriers. All vehicles stop to pay the toll tax and at least the driver and the co-driver seat would see the message. LONG SHORT WALK ON RAILWAY ROAD: The road has 7 educational institutions (colleges and schools). The girl students would participate in "The Long Short Walk" from their Educational Institutions to the Bus Stand from where they board the buses for their homes in nearby villages. These students walk daily on a very crowded road which has no walkway. We will submit a memorandum to the Mayor or the Municipal Corporation to get a dedicated walkway built for these students.
