Child Pedestrian Safety in Conjunction with UNRSW
11 May 2013, Safe Kids Malaysia

During this GRSW 2013, Safe Kids Malaysia intends to increase pedestrian safety among school children in a primary school (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Kajang) in the district of Kajang, State of Selangor, Malaysia. This school was selected as it has a huge population of students (close to 1500) and is located in the heart of the town in a busy traffic zone. The population of students comes from a mixed and diversified socio-economic background. The plan is have a safety walk for a distance of approximately 1km nearby the school area consisting of students, parents and teachers for pedestrian safety. Upon reaching the school after the walk, all the participants would use the newly built pedestrian walkway (277 feet in length and 7 feet in width). This new covered pedestrian walkway is expected to increase the safety of pedestrian (mainly children) while sharing the road with other road users.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY IN UNIVERSITY PUTRA MALAYSIA IN CONJUNCTION WITH UNRSW 14 May 2013, Safe Kids Malaysia, University Putra Malaysia

Safe Kids Malaysia plans to increase pedestrian safety among campus population comprising campus students and staffs. The program will be held in University Putra Malaysia (UPM) which has a campus population of about 20,000 people. In the UPM campus, a large number of students commute to their faculty from your hostel residence by walking. Thus there are a huge number of pedestrians on the road in the campus which warrants for the UNRSW 2013 program to take place here. The plan is to have a talk on road safety in general and then followed by on pedestrian safety in specific. There would also be a testimonial by a road safety victim to be shared with the audience. This will be followed by a small exhibition and a road advocacy campaign in the field. This event would be jointly organised together with the Road Safety Department of Malaysia and Allianz Malaysia.
