Dimitra Vlahomitros is a Senior Advisor for Road Safety for the Motor Accidents Authority of New South Wales (MAA) in Australia. She is responsible for managing a range of road user programs including those related to children and young drivers. Dimitra has been working in road safety for over five years both in Victoria and New South Wales. Her interests in road safety include drugs and driving, driver distraction and child safety. She holds an Honours degree in Psychology.

After having worked for Amnesty International, Axel Druart joined Responsible Young Drivers (RYD) where he coordinated actions and volunteers throughout Belgium. In 2004, he created RYD Luxemburg and in 2006, he became director of RYD Netherlands. As well as being the Chairman of TOP-25 planning and implementation activities across all EU Member States, he became the European Project Director of RYD in 2008. He holds a Master’s degree in Communication, with a specialization in Advertising.

Jéssica Soares has been a volunteer for Vida Urgente since 2006, after losing her father in a car crash a few years earlier. Vida Urgente is a project that has over 15,000 volunteers in 27 states across Brazil, which focuses on peer to peer education. She has been developing road safety awareness activities for the youth of Rio Grande do Sul and Brasil. Since 2007, she educates young children about road safety through theatre projects.

Duane Ironstand is the current chair of the Canadian Road Safety Youth Committee (CRSYC), which was formed by the Canadian delegates following the World Youth Assembly for Road Safety. The Committee has worked to recruit other young Canadians, and now has representation from many regions of the country. Duane’s past experience in the community is in injury prevention involving the development and implementation of sustainable health programmes in a First Nations community. He is currently pursuing his BSc. Degree in Psychology.

Ousman Conteh has been working for several years within the National Youth Parliament of the Gambia, holding different positions, focusing on topics ranging from road safety to road infrastructure. He currently holds the role of Programme Officer. Following the World Youth Assembly for Road Safety, he presented the activities and challenges of road safety in the Gambia at the Sub-regional Conference on Road Safety in Dakar, Senegal. He holds a diploma in Business Management and Administration and is currently pursuing his Undergraduate Diploma in Mass Communication.

Nellie Ghusayni was a volunteer and member of the Youth Association for Social Awareness (YASA) for several years. She participated in the preparations for the First UN Global Road Safety Week and co-chaired a working group to draft the Youth Declaration for Road Safety. She chaired the World Youth Assembly for Road Safety and later represented the youth in the European Road Safety Day in Brussels and the regional closing of the UN Week in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Following this, she worked as a research assistant for road safety at UN ESCWA and now is a regional coordinator for MENA, working on increasing youth involvement in road safety.

Having been involved in a car crash herself, Jessica Billings organized various road safety related activities during her high school years and served on the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) Board of Directors; she was chosen as the National Student of the Year for Students Against Destructive Decisions(SADD) in 2005. After an internship at the National Highway Safety Administration and attending the World Youth Assembly for Road Safety, she was given the opportunity to address the United Nation’s General Assembly in New York about global road safety. Currently, she is interning for the Make Roads Safe Campaign and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
