WHO Global Learning Laboratory for Quality UHC

Webinar series

Periodic webinars act as a mechanism for sharing emerging lessons from the field of quality within the context of UHC. The interactive webinars are open to all. Upcoming webinars are announced and past webinar series archived on this page. Webinars focus on sharing experiences with the aim of catalysing change. The webinar topics are organized around the three focus areas, namely:

  • national quality policies and strategies;
  • specific technical areas; and
  • the role of compassion in quality UHC.

Webinars use an ignite format which is a unique way of ensuring that those with intimate knowledge of quality at the front line describe their concepts and theories informed by current practice and implementation in a succinct manner, focussing on what participants need to know.

GLL Webinar 6: Strengthening the knowledge base about quality of care - an overview of Hinari: Research for Health.
Date: April 2018
Summary: Advancing on the promise of universal health coverage (UHC) requires access to critical information to strengthen the knowledge base around quality of care. This webinar will provide an overview of the WHO programme, Hinari Access to Research for Health. The webinar will orient participants on the functionality of the Hinari portal and explain how to retrieve information relating to evidence-based practice, quality of care and specific specialities to enhance service delivery at the front line.

GLL Webinar 7: Improvement approaches spotlight: examining the Twinning Partnerships for Improvement model.
Date: June 2018
Summary: Twinning partnerships can catalyse improvement in health facilities, taking into consideration human interactions at the front line. This webinar will explore the role of such partnerships as an improvement approach at the local and national levels, and consider their potential contribution to building resilient health systems. Key components of the model will be described and examples from countries where the Twinning Partnerships for Improvement model has been applied will be shared.

GLL Webinar 8: National Quality Policy and Strategy: examining the eight essential elements.
Date: August 2018
Summary: National strategic direction on quality is critical. This webinar will examine the eight essential elements of the WHO Handbook for National Quality Policy and Strategy (NQPS). Tools and resources that support the development and execution of such policies and strategies will also be explored. Practical examples from countries that have applied the NQPS process will be shared.

GLL Webinar 9: Community engagement for quality, integrated and resilient health services.
Date: October 2018
Summary: This webinar will introduce key concepts on community engagement and the linkages with quality improvement. Innovative and meaningful solutions to tackle front-line challenges that hinder scale-up and sustainability of life-saving health interventions will be explored. The webinar will also provide an opportunity to examine the role of community engagement in advancing quality of care for mothers, newborn and children.

GLL Webinar 10: Exploring health service resilience.
Date: December 2018
Summary: Quality has clear links with health service resilience. Health systems provide a foundation for advancing on the ambition of achieving UHC as well as enhancing health security. This webinar will explore how countries are taking forward embedding health security into national health system strengthening efforts, with a particular focus on the role of quality in enhancing resilience. These linkages will also be examined with a particular focus on measurement.

GLL Webinar 5: Compassion – the heart of quality people-centred health services.
Date: 14 February 2018
Summary: This 90-minute webinar explores the role of compassion as a critical pillar of delivering quality people-centred health services. Perspectives and case studies from across the world are examined. Examples are shared on how compassion has been incorporated at different levels and in different types of health systems to catalyse change for achieving greater quality. Key challenges in making the case and acting for compassionate health services are explored. An interactive global discussion allows participants to share their wisdom.

GLL Webinar 4: Quality of care for mothers, newborns and children: A pathfinder for enhanced quality of service delivery
Date: 17 October 2017, 15:00 CEST
Summary: The webinar will provide an overview of the MNCH Quality of Care Network as well as highlight the potential pathfinder role of quality MNCH in wider efforts to enhance quality of health services within the context of UHC. Specific country examples of change drivers will be examined with a focus on how MNCH can act as a pathfinder to progress towards people-centred services. Finally, the webinar examines how lessons learned from early work of the network can be cascaded to inform further work on quality at the national, regional and global level.

GLL Webinar 3: Quality improvement nuggets - wisdom from the field
Date: 31 July 2017
Summary: This webinar series is hosted in partnership with the USAID Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) project. This technical webinar will present findings from implementing quality improvement interventions using a variety of approaches in distinct health systems across the world. The focus will be on “change nuggets” that emerge from the implementation process that can be applied in other settings.

GLL Webinar 2: National Quality Policies and Strategies
Date: 30 May 2017
Summary: This webinar will examine the role of national quality polices and strategies in driving change in national health systems. The webinar will allow participants to think through key change drivers for developing national quality policies and strategies. Emphasis is placed on how local implementation can inform and be informed by national strategic direction on quality. Examples and lessons learned from a number of country experiences will be shared.
