8 March 2006 - Geneva, Switzerland
Scope and Purpose
In the resolution WHA 58.26 on public health problems caused by harmful use of alcohol, the Director-General is requested to organize open consultations with representatives of alcohol industry and agricultural and trade sectors in order to limit the health impact of harmful alcohol consumption. To follow up that request, selected representatives of industry, agricultural and trade sectors of alcoholic beverage will be invited to an open consultation with WHO on 8 March 2006.

The proposed objectives of the meeting are:
- To brief participants on current WHO activities in relation to the resolution WHA 58.26;
- To exchange views on appropriate corporate initiatives in order to limit the health impact of harmful alcohol consumption; and
- To discuss external factors that can enhance industry efforts to reduce harmful use of alcoholic beverages.
