Tuberculosis (TB)

'A World Free of TB' Photo Exhibition

A special photographic exhibition, featuring images taken by the acclaimed war photographer, James Nachtwey, has been viewed by some 100,000 visitors to the United Nations headquarters in New York.

'A World Free of TB', which ran from 22 March to 25 April 2007, also included an historical overview of the epidemic by the UN Messenger of Peace, Anna Cataldi. The exhibition was part of a series of global events held to mark World TB Day 2007.

This year, WHO reported on World TB Day that tuberculosis annual incidence rates are now stable or falling in all six WHO regions and may have peaked globally. However the total number of cases is still rising in the African, Eastern Mediterranean and South-East Asian regions.

The exhibition will now travel to other international cities to highlight the urgent need for sustained action against tuberculosis.
