Tuberculosis (TB)

Database on global MDR-TB research activities

Background

Currently, there is a lack of evidence available to develop policy recommendations for the management of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in low- and middle-income settings. As a result, WHO and partners developed the DOTS-Plus strategy which is currently being tested through pilot projects and operational research activities. In order to stimulate global MDR-TB research activities the Stop TB Working Group on DOTS-Plus for MDR-TB has developed a prioritised research agenda for DOTS-Plus.

In addition, a database on global MDR-TB research activities has been created with the following purposes:

  • To match this catalogue of ongoing research activities with the established research agenda for DOTS-Plus to ensure all topics needed to develop policy of DOTS-Plus are covered and to stimulate research activities in areas not covered.
  • To create a global network whereby collaboration across institutions interested in the same area could be pursued with the intent of jointly addressing research activities.

Currently this database contains more than 70 MDR-TB research projects in 26 countries. Should you wish to include your project into this database, please fill in the online questionnaire.

To search for projects in the MDR-TB research database, please select either a research category or a country and click "Search".
