TDR reorganizing for efficiency
A new streamlined organizational structure is the first result of a broader review process initiated the beginning of 2011. TDR is reviewing its portfolio of activities and priority areas of work, budget and expenditure, in line with its anticipated level of revenue.
TDR will continue to operate on the basis of its three strategic functions of research, stewardship and empowerment for neglected diseases of poverty. The stewardship and empowerment functions are being brought together into a single coordination unit of three teams: knowledge management and priorities; leadership development; and innovation networks.
The research activities are realigned into four teams:
- Vectors, environment and society
- Neglected tropical diseases
- TB/HIV
- Malaria
The current diagnostics unit is being mainstreamed within the specific disease research areas.
The reorganization process is being conducted within the policies and practices of the World Health Organization and in consultation with TDR's other co-sponsors (UNICEF, UNDP and the World Bank) as well as its Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) and Joint Coordinating Board (JCB).
The process is expected to be completed by May 2011.
