TDR at the World Health Summit

Discussions of equity, priority setting and harmonization will be led by TDR and partners at this year’s World Health Summit, to be held 21-24 October in Berlin. The World Health Summit’s mission is to bring together researchers, physicians, leading government officials and representatives from industry as well as from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and health care systems worldwide to address the most pressing issues facing medicine and health care systems over the next decade and beyond.

A panel on research capacity building in the context of working with regional and global partners will be held by TDR, ESSENCE on Health Research and GIZ. The panel brings together 9 experts to look at how better to meet low- and middle-country needs, and explore themes of research capacity support mechanisms, harmonization of approaches, public-private partnerships, planning, monitoring and evaluation and country priority needs.

ESSENCE is a collaborative framework between funding agencies to scale up research capacity. It aims to improve the impact of investments in institutions and people, and provides enabling mechanisms that address needs and priorities within national strategies on research for health. TDR hosts the secretariat. GIZ provides international cooperation services for sustainable development to the German government.
