Conference to address TB
The 44th Union World Conference on Lung Health will be held 30 October –3 November, 2013 in Paris. This is the conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, and TDR is involved in several events before and during this annual conference that draws together 2500 delegates from 125 countries.

European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) TB stakeholder meeting
Christian Lienhardt from the WHO Global TB Programme presents on TB control and the need for more implementation and operational research. He highlights TDR’s SORT IT structured operational research and training programme as an example of how this might be achieved while building the much needed capacity at country level.
Stop TB Symposium, organized by the World Health Organization’s Global TB Programme
The focus at this event is on the need for research, and how control managers can and should be a part of identifying research priorities and conducting research. TDR’s Andy Ramsay will provide an overview of the SORT IT model where control officers in ministries of health work with WHO staff and instructors in a one-year training/mentorship programme to identify and correct system bottlenecks.

- A one-day post graduate course on how research can inform national strategies for scale-up of new TB diagnostics, co-organized by TDR and the Liverpool School.
