Engels appointed Director of WHO Neglected Tropical Diseases
Dr Dirk Engels has been appointed as the new Director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), to begin 1 May. A Belgian national, Dr Engels is currently Coordinator of the Preventive Chemotherapy and Transmission Control unit of the department.
“We at TDR congratulate Dr Engels and we are looking forward to working with him in this new role. We have already had many years of successful collaboration with him – research is an important part of the control strategy,” said John Reeder, Director of TDR.
Dirk Engels will replace Lorenzo Savioli, who retires after 23 years at WHO, including 9 years as Director of NTD.
