TDR | Nature Reviews Microbiology Collaboration

The WHO's Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease (TDR) and Nature Publishing Group (NPG) are delighted to announce a major new publishing partnership.

The communication of issues relevant to tropical infectious diseases is an essential component of TDR's work and is closely aligned with a key aim of Nature Reviews Microbiology - to promote the study of infectious diseases that afflict poor and marginalized populations. This pioneering association with NPG, one of the world's leading publisher of scientific and technological information, is a natural step toward TDR's goal of accelerating the generation and dissemination of information and knowledge to all target audiences. Only through such innovative partnerships between the public and private sectors will the comparative advantages of each be brought to bear with the greatest impact.

Dr Carlos Morel, former Director of TDR, writes:

"Knowledge has always been the best remedy for any disease. Today, information and knowledge has become the world's most precious commodity. TDR must find new ways of prospecting for knowledge, of processing it and sharing it. We must canvass new ideas, encourage debate, engage new partners and promote information flow on the scale needed to efficiently address global research and health issues - particularly in relation to the diseases affecting developing countries. This new collaboration with NPG will help achieve these goals".
