Summary

This report presents the outcome of a workshop held to discuss the possibility of estimating the geographical distribution of filariasis on the basis of surveys in a limited spatial sample of communities.

The three main sections of the report present:

  • a review of spatial patterns of filariasis
  • proposed methods for the rapid geographical assessment of Bancroftian filariasis
  • plans for field-testing of the proposed methods

Two annexes provide a list of participants and a interview form for use in the rapid assessment of community burden of disease.
