WHO event: Global launch of World No Tobacco Day 2004 in Brazil

1. 9:00H Forum: Tobacco and poverty a vicious circle in the PAHO/WHO Brasília Country Office, Brazil.
During the opening of the forum, an official commemorative stamp will be launched. A new Ruling for tobacco cessation treatment will be signed. There will be a presentation of the results of a national school survey on smoking prevalence. During this event, there will be the launch of the following book: "Seminar on the WHO FCTC" (in Portuguese)

2. Following the opening of the forum, there will be a press conference with the MoH of Brazil (in the same PAHO office). Dr Humberto Toro e Vera da Costa e Silva – WHO – Geneva will also attend the press conference.
3. 15:00H Opening of another forum organized by the Public Federal District : the Ministerio Publico do Distrito Federal - Mobilização para o Controle do Tabaco. This will take place in the "praça Minicipal" and Dr da Costa e Silva will participate in the opening.

4. 11:00H Solemn Session in the Brazilian National Congress. (Plenário Ulisses Guimarães). The book previously mentioned will be launched again "Seminar on the WHO FCTC" (in Portuguese).
During the events 1 and 4, there will be the showing of a video (see link below), created for this occasion with real testimonies of tobacco farmers from several tobacco growing areas in Brazil.
