100% Smoke-Free Health Service

Smokers and non-smokers are invited to make Riverland Regional Health Service SMOKEFREE for WNTD. Staff members who register receive kits as smokers or non-smoking supporters. The event is designed to stimulate discussion in relation to all sites across the health service going smoke-free permanently.

Smoking Cessation Campaign

As part of the pre-registration pharmacist training programme, the pharmacy is holding this campaign and will make available information on smoking cessation aids (Nicotine Replacement Therapy), smoking cessation starter kits, advice on how to improve your chances of quitting.

Media Launch of Smoke Free Policy Initiative

Royal Hobart Hospital will launch a package of initiatives at a major media event. CEO Dr Craig White, will announce a major blitz on smoking on the hospital site now that our Tobacco Control Officers have been appointed. He will also launch a leaflet outlining the hospital's smoke-free policy, which came into effect under State Government legislation.

Launch of Youth Smoking Prevention and Cessation Resource Pack
ACT, Australia, 31 May 2007

The Cancer Council ACT (TCCACT) President, Dr Kevin White, will launch a comprehensive youth smoking prevention and cessation resource pack for ACT high schools to assist them in tackling youth smoking. Dr White will also announce a school competition for students to brand this Pack by designing a tag-line or small artwork. This Pack was developed as a partnership project between TCCACT, ACT Health, and the ACT Department of Education and Training.

Spot the smoker

Local radio station will inform community on the event of 28/05/2007. Children (10 - 15 years old) will spot smokers in public and give them the spot information about smoking. This information will be billed as a pretend fine for smoking on WNTD.
