Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control will meet in Moscow for the sixth time

7 October 2014 -- Geneva - On 13 October the sixth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP6) to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) will open in Moscow, Russian Federation and will last six days. The COP is the governing body of the Convention, which meets regularly to review implementation of the Convention and takes the decisions necessary to promote its effective implementation.

The agenda of COP6 covers many substantive issues: price and tax measures, economically sustainable alternatives to tobacco growing, trade and investment issues, as well as measures in relation to smokeless tobacco products, waterpipe, and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). A global progress report will discuss compliance with the provisions of the treaty and will show that Parties continue to face legal challenges from the tobacco industry and front groups when implementing tobacco-control measures.
