WHO

The public health focus in Africa has been largely on the communicable disease burden. However, the trends in tobacco consumption among African youths show that Africa is beginning to catch up with the rest of the world and that it faces a corresponding explosion in the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases unless something is done now. Therefore, this is the right moment to address the tobacco epidemic in Africa.
