Philippines
The World Health Organization (WHO) engaged with the Ministry of Finance tax officials during 2010 WHO Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO) tobacco tax training workshop and continued exchanging information. The WHO and Ministry of Finance team met again in Ankara in 2011 during the WHO tobacco tax training workshop for Minister of Finance officials and discussed areas of improvement in tobacco tax system in Philippines. Ministry of Finance team visited Geneva in early 2012 to go over tax proposal and discussed the different tax options and administration issues. In July 2012, WHO engaged with the high level Ministry of Finance to share global experiences and strengths and weaknesses of different types of tax systems. WHO has currently ongoing collaboration with Ministry of Finance Philippines and provides technical support for the tax bill which is submitted to the Senate by Ministry of Finance.
