The first session of the Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control
Day 9 - Thur, 16 February
Committee B adopted the foundational document on the establishment of the permanent secretariat to forward for adoption to the Conference in plenary. (Doc A/FCTC/COP/1/B/Conference Paper 8 Rev.1)
Committee B reached consensus on the budget (close to the US 8 million) as presented in document A/FCTC/COP/1/5. Discussions regarding the method of funding the budget are in process.
Committee B will join Committee A this afternoon in order to report on both agenda items mentioned above: 4.2 (designation of the permanent secretariat) and 4.4 (adoption of the budget). This will allow those matters that were handled separately but that intertwine in important ways to be discussed together.
