National capacity

To succeed we need to build capacity in the developing world itself, and WHO is committed to contribute.

United Nations Foundation Project: "Protecting Youth from Tobacco in Five Countries"

Through this project, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners will discourage children from tobacco use by coordinating global assistance to countries in the areas of legislation, economic interventions, and litigation. The project will involve five countries: Ukraine, China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Senegal.

The project will be implemented in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Bank, national ministries of health/justice, and non-governmental organizations (Fund for Technical Cooperation, International Union Against Cancer, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, and others). The project will support three major activities:
