Advertising and promotion
"The tobacco epidemic is a communicated disease. It is communicated through advertising, through the example of smokers and through the smoke to which non-smokers - especially children - are exposed. Our job is to immunize people against this epidemic."
- Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, Director-General Emeritus, World Health Organization
Advertising and promotion bans work. The World Bank concludes that comprehensive bans on advertising and promotion can reduce the demand for tobacco. A study by researchers from one of the leading US economic research organization, the National Bureau of Economic Research, estimates that comprehensive set of tobacco advertising bans can reduce consumption by more than 6 percent.
