World Cancer Day
4 February 2010
Tobacco use is a risk factor for certain kinds of cancer, including of the larynx, liver, lung, mouth, oesophagus and stomach. If fewer people smoked or were exposed to tobacco smoke, there would be fewer such cancers.
The World Health Organization's Tobacco Free Initiative supports World Cancer Day, which takes place annually on 4 February under the sponsorship of the International Union Against Cancer, a nongovernmental organization in official relations with WHO.
