SEARO awardees

1. Hon Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister, Healthcare and Nutrition. Sri Lanka

Under his leadership, a new tobacco law was enacted at country level.

2. Mr Shanta Lall Mulmi. Executive Director. Resource Centre for Primary Health Care (RECPHEC), Nepal

A tobacco control advocate for over a decade, he has mobilized 604 NGOs in 30 districts across the country, the largest mobilization in Nepal for tobacco control. The Resource Centre published, under his leadership, an advocacy kit used by parliament representatives who worked on the tobacco act.

4. S. Meedhoo, Meedhoo Womens’ Development Committee. Republic of Maldives (Island with a Tobacco Free Female Population)

Both nominations are for the successful outcomes of the respective tobacco control campaigns aimed at reducing tobacco use prevalence among women in these two inhabited islands of the Republic of Maldives.
