Statistics

All WHO statistics are derived from an interactive process of data collection, compilation, quality assessment and estimation occurring among WHO’s technical programs and its Member States. During this process, WHO strives to maximize the accessibility, accuracy, comparability and transparency of health statistics.

A core group of indicators, selected on the basis of relevance to global health, data availability, and accuracy and comparability of estimates, are published annually in a form of World Health Statistics. The editions include core health statistics on over 50 indicators organized into six major areas: mortality and burden of disease, health service coverage, risk factors, health system inputs, differentials in health outcome and coverage, as well as basic socio-demographic statistics.
